Take the best Rice Krispies Treats recipe and make it MAGICALLY DELICIOUS with Lucky Charms marshmallows! These are so fun for St. Patrick’s Day–or for any day, really. Try your luck and give these a go!

Alright, folks, let’s talk about a serious upgrade to a childhood classic. We’re taking those humble Rice Krispie treats and kicking them up a notch with… drumroll please… Lucky Charms marshmallows! Yeah, you heard me. We’re bringing the magic.

While I am a sucker for nostalgia, the rice krispie treats I grew up with were store bought and not my favorite. But last year, as an adult, I dove head first into the world of rice krispie treats and have discovered I absolutely LOVE homemade ones. I have made A LOT of batches, making up for lost time, and really feel like I’ve hit the jackpot with the recipe I’m going to share. Ooey, gooey, and perfectly sweet. Then add in those sugary, colorful marshmallow bits from a box of Lucky Charms and ohhhhhh man. Jackpot. Again.

Why this Lucky Charms Rice Krispie Treats Recipe works (It’s Pure Magic!):

  • Extra Sweetness: The Lucky Charms marshmallows add an extra layer of sweetness and those signature fruity flavors.
  • Colorful Fun: Those vibrant marshmallows make these treats visually stunning.
  • Nostalgia Overload: It’s like a trip down memory lane with every bite.
  • Texture Play: The classic crunch of the Rice Krispies with the soft, chewy marshmallows is a winning combo.
  • Easy & Quick: I love me a good dessert, but sometimes you need something quick AND delicious. You get both with this recipe!
  • Butter: I recommend using salted butter for this recipe!
  • Vanilla Extract: adds a touch of warmth.
  • Marshmallows: I prefer using mini marshmallows because they melt better, but you can use regular size if you have them.
  • Rice Krispies Cereal: The foundation of our masterpiece.
  • Lucky Charms Marshmallows: during certain times of the year, you can get bags of STRAIGHT Lucky Charms marshmallows from Target! You can sometimes find them on Amazon, too. One last option is that you can get a box of Lucky Charms cereal and pick out as many marshmallows as you can.

Helpful tools:

  • 9X13 glass pan (we love this one because it has a lid…it makes storage SO convenient!)
  • Parchment paper
  1. Marshmallows prep: If you are using the Lucky Charms marshmallows from the cereal box, you’ll want to start by separating those out. If not, you can skip this step. 😉
  2. Pan prep: Prepare a 9X13 glass pan by lining it with parchment paper (my preferred method) OR by buttering the pan. Set aside.
  3. Melt the butter: in a large pan over the stove, melt your butter over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Once the butter has melted, add in the vanilla and stir.
  4. Marshmallow melt down: Remove the pan from the stove and add in your regular marshmallows. Give it a gentle stir, then put the lid on the pan. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until the marshmallows are ooey gooey! This method leaves some big delicious globs of marshmallows!
  5. Cereal time: Pour in the cereal and half of your Lucky Charms marshmallows. Gently fold into the melted butter/marshmallow mixture until the cereal is well coated and evenly incorporated.
  6. Press and cool: Pour or spoon the mixture into your prepared 9×13 pan. Using a greased spatula OR an additional sheet or parchment paper, gently press the mixture into the pan so it sits evenly.
  7. Dress it: sprinkle the remaining Lucky Charms marshmallows onto the top of the mixture, and gently press down once more. We want those fellas to stick!
  8. Patiently wait then enjoy: Let the treats cool completely before slicing into them. Once cooled, cut into squares and enjoy!
