Woodland Themed Baby Shower

Woodland baby showers are so darling and versatile! Such a fun way to celebrate a new baby–boy or girl!

This has got to be one of my favorite baby showers that I have ever planned/helped to plan! Most of the credit for this one goes to my mother-in-law–isn’t she so talented?

While we have a lot of pictures from the day, they are not all the best quality; there had been some pretty extreme wildfires in CA that caused our air quality to be some of the WORST it had ever been. It was so hazy! Just look!

A home from the roof up with a very hazy and smoky sky, with a glowing red sun; this picture is showing what the sky looked like during a wildfire in a nearby city.
This photo has ZERO editing. That is what the sky and sun looked like!

Regardless of the yucky air, it was such a beautiful day celebrating a beautiful mama to be! Read on for decor and food ideas for a woodland baby shower!

Woodland Baby Shower Food Ideas:

  • Brunch: if you are hosting a baby shower with a main entree, I recommend doing a brunch! We love doing brunch baby showers because the main dishes are easy to prep ahead of time and bake the day of. French toast casserole and egg casserole bakes or mini quiches are great!
  • “Bunny Yummies” Veggie Shooters: mix up your favorite ranch dip and evenly distribute between clear plastic cups. Add celery sticks, baby carrots, grape tomatoes, vertical cucumber slices, etc.
  • Fresh Fruit: serve whatever is in season! We went with a variety of berries.
  • Lady Bugs: (not pictured): remove the outer wrapper of mini Babybell snack cheeses; using a permanent marker, draw mid-sized dots on the wax wrapper to resemble a lady bug. Right before the shower starts, remove the little thing in the middle of the wax and gently separate the wax so a little of the white cheese shows; they will look like lady bugs spreading their wings!
  • Acorns: these are so fun! Simply unwrap Hershey’s Chocolate kisses and using melted chocolate or candy melts, attach to Nutter Butter Bites (nut free version: use mini vanilla wafers). Then, you can either use melted chocolate to attach a mini chocolate chip to the other side of the cookie, or you can simply pipe a small dot of melted chocolate on and allow it to cool, to give it the look of an acorn. SO cute!
  • Birch Branches: another fun one that is so cute! Dip pretzel rods into melted white candy melts or chocolate. Tap of the excess chocolate, then lay on a parchment lined baking sheet to set. Once chocolate has set, drizzle on some milk or dark chocolate to give the pretzel wands the look of a birch tree!

Chocolate Woodland Tree Stump Cake

This is one of my favorite cakes I have ever made! And not only was it darling but…it was SO quick and easy to decorate!

A cake on a wooden cake stand that has been frosted to resemble a wood log or tree trunk; the chocolate frosting is piped vertically with wavy lines with several chocolate roses resembling tree knots. There are also sugared blackberries and pine sprigs decorating the sides and top of the cake.

I did a chocolate cake with raspberry filling and used a basic chocolate buttercream for the exterior:

  1. First, I did a light crumb coat with the buttercream and frosted the top.
  2. After allowing that to set in the fridge for about 30 minutes, I used a piping bag fit with a Wilton 1M tip to randomly pipe several rosettes of various sizes on the cake to resemble tree knots.
  3. Next, I piped vertical lines with a slight wave from the base of the cake to the top, to resemble tree bark. When piping around the rosettes, simply pull away your piping bag when the frosting meets the rosette, then begin the line when the rosette ends.
  4. I dipped blackberries in sparkling sugar to resemble pine cones (you could also do cranberries if this shower is in the winter! That would be so beautiful!). Add a couple of pine sprigs to the top and sides, lightly sprinkle with some confectioner’s sugar, and you have yourself a dreamy woodland tree stump cake!

Decoration Ideas for a Woodland Themed Baby Shower

woodland baby shower decorations: a table scape with a white table cloth, eucalyptus, pine, and baby's breath, and a darling stuffed animal deer.
A pergola in a back yard with a swimming pool behind it; the pergola has a large balloon arch with sage green, white, and gold balloons.

Here are some of our favorite decoration finds:

  • Greenery: eucalyptus, pine, and baby’s breath. So simple yet so elegant and easy to work with! If none of these are available, you can also just snip off whatever greenery you can find in your yard!
  • Pine cones: collect from your yard/tree, or find some at the craft store/online.
  • Woodland animal stuffies: such a cheap and cute way to decorate! Round up as many woodland-type stuffed animals from family members, friends, and from your kid’s stash.
  • Balloon arch: I highly recommend getting a balloon pump if you plan on ever doing a balloon arch. They save SO much time!
  • Wood Rounds: these are great for centerpiece decor; place a vase and votives on top for an elegant look!
  • Wood cake stand: this one is similar to mine; this one is also really cute.
  • Garland

Other party essentials

  • Paperware
  • Cups & straws
  • Silverware/plastic cutlery
  • Napkins
  • Table cloths

Woodland Baby Shower Favor Ideas

  • Birch Branches: make the birch branches as outlined above. Once set, wrap in cellophane bags and secure with a twist tie/some cute ribbon or twine. These bags are self sealing, so you could just add a cute sticker!
  • Shower gel: A mini shower gel with a tag that reads: “Thank you for showering the mom to be!” The Eucalyptus Spearmint shower gel from Bath and Body Works would fit the theme/color scheme!
  • Mini Martinelli’s: A mini bottle of Martinelli’s (or could do full size) with a note that reads “Almost ready to pop!” or “Thanks for popping by!” attached to the bottle with jute twine. Note: I find the price point a little high on the mini bottles of Martinelli’s I linked. I would recommend checking at your local grocery store first; sometimes you can find these, sometimes you can’t! If you can, I believe it would be cheaper than using what I linked.
