Know a soon-to-be mama who is craving tacos? Give this darling shower idea a go!

This Taco Baby Shower was an absolute fiesta!
This was such a fun baby shower to plan and host! Obviously tacos are GREAT, but there are so many different ways you can customize this theme! You can really hone in on aspects of the theme like avocados, limes, all things southwest, cacti, fiesta, etc. The possibilities are endless, which is one reason why I LOVE this theme!
Taco Bout a Baby Taco Bar
Here are the taco bar basics! You can really customize this and make it your own. Go street style, Cafe Rio inspired, or Baja/costal with fish and shrimp! Really the possibilities are endless.
- Meat: we kept this super simple and got some precooked shredded chicken and carne asada from Costco. Other great options are crock pot sweet pork (this recipe from Carlsbad Cravings is my go to!), shrimp, or crispy fish.
- Cheese: we used a pre-shredded Mexican style blend of cheese for our taco bar. You can also shred your own, or have a variety of cheeses, like pepper jack, cheddar, or cotija!
- Tortillas: for more of a street taco feel, you can just do corn tortillas, or give your guests the option of both! I love using a tortilla warmer to keep the corn tortillas from getting dry! They are also so handy for heating tortillas in the microwave.
- Toppings: lime, cilantro, diced onion, and avocado are perfect topping options! You can also opt for guacamole and skip having a dish each of cilantro, onions, and avocado; it may be more cost effective to do it that way! Don’t forget your favorite salsa! (PS: have you been to Target lately? Their Good & Gather brand has totally upped their game as of late! We LOVE their mango peach salsa and lime crema sauce. Both would be great options for a taco bar!)

More Food Ideas for Taco Bout a Baby Shower
- Rice and Beans: this is SUCH a cheap way to fill up bellies! Make up a huge batch of black beans and cilantro rice to serve on the side. This recipe from BeanRecipes is SO easy and good.
- Cactus Pretzel Wands: dip pretzel rods in melted green candy melts and top with white jimmies. You could get really fancy and brush on some edible glitter after the candy melts have set!
- Green Chile Popcorn: we got this from Trader Joe’s (seasonal item)
- Churros: We picked up several dozen from Costco and cut them into smaller portions. El Pollo Loco also has great churros! You can even buy these ahead of time, store in the fridge, and reheat in the air fryer right before the shower so they are warm and crispy! Serve them plain or have a churro bar! We love ours with caramel and chocolate sauce, but white chocolate sauce, strawberry pie filling, and/or peach pie filling would be amazing, too!

- Fresh Fruit: We went with pineapple and watermelon, as they were in season and at a great price point. PS: have you ever tried watermelon with Tajin? GAME CHANGER! If you serve watermelon, have a bottle of Tajin out next to it…another cute way to lean into the taco theme!
- Cake or Cupcakes: I made a lemon cake with raspberry filling and an ombre pink vanilla buttercream exterior. I used an open star piping tip to pipe “cacti” on the sides and went in with a small basic round piping tip to add little blooming cactus flowers of sorts.
- Mocktails: this is a perfect time to try out a “mom” tail recipe! We made a watermelon margarita mocktail by blending the fruit of one watermelon with the juice of 4 limes and about 1/2 a cup of simple syrup. We let people pour the drink themselves, but you could totally have some fun margarita glasses rimmed with sea salt or even tajin!
